News

Reporting has been changed to incorporate central report storage and retrieval. Also there are now more default reports, with more on the way. This means that RIP is no longer restricted to two reports and power users can create their own reports which will become available for everyone to use.

It is now possible to set up Auto Logon by populating the NT User field on the users record, RIP will then automatically check the NT User's logon with an entry in the RIP database and if a match is found then use those user setting to log onto RIP.

It is now possible to talk to different Rip Server's using the select server dialog.

A better looking splash screen.

Rip now uses the Jet 4 engine, and is compatible with MDAC 2.1.2.

Feature Set:

  • Power Users can design their own reports.
  • Unique filtering system, that really is unbeatable.
  • Sends an EMail to users when Issues are allocated to them.
  • End User reporting framework, yes you can design your own reports !
  • Captures the information in a simple and effective way, it enforces a workflow through the life cycle of a problem.
  • Two levels of users, Normal and Power. The power user can update any field in the problem, and is meant for the project manager of the product.
  • A problem can have many people updating the information at once, it can be assigned to multiple developers at any given time, all adding their own comments.
  • Multi User, this application makes use of a unique architecture developed by Romtree for unsurpassed scalability of applications. By default the normal installation can run on the desktop or as a multi user DCOM system, BUT with no code changes, just a simply recompile the server application can rescale using Microsoft's Transaction Server for hundreds of clients.
  • Customisation of all system tables.

Installation Instructions

In order to install RIP you need to have Microsofts Data Access Components (MDAC) installed first. You can get this from Microsofts Web Site at www.microsoft.com/data or on the Windows NT Service Pack 4 CD under the MDAC directory. When installing MDAC choose the custom setup and ensure that the Microsoft Jet 3.51 provider is selected. Once this has been installed then download Ripsetup.exe and complete the installation.

Disclaimers

Please note that this system is a beta version and as such has some limitations placed on it. There is a time restriction of 30 days, and 1 concurrent user. There is limited help about how the system works, ie this is it! As the system is enhanced and documentation is improved we will let you know.

There are two ways to trial RIP.

  1. You can install onto an NT Workstation as a standalone system, and execute RtIssues (the Client program) from your start menu.
  2. As part of the RipSetup the installation program installs the RIPServer and creates a share called RIPServer on that machine. Users on other machines can run the NWSetup from the RIPServer share which will install the client onto their machine and talk to the RIPServer on the first machine.
